GeoLinks: A Novel Approach to Wireless Networking

Phillip Deneef, Chief Strategy Officer
Historically in the California marketplace, areas within a two-mile radius outside of dense metro cities have become broadband deserts, the result of a lack of broadband investment over the last three decades. Suffering a parallel fate were thousands of companies in the business parks of these areas throughout the state. Limited to only a handful of local exchange carriers (LEC), these companies had no option but to work with providers that took months to deliver connectivity and offered relatively poor experience in terms of project management, installation, tech support, and billing. In came GeoLinks, a privately held local exchange carrier based in California, offering high-speed internet circuits delivered wirelessly with their flagship product, ClearFiber.

With an average installation of seven to 10 business days, ClearFiber is backed by a carrier-grade SLA that guarantees 99.999 percent uptime and 24/7 in-house customer support. “Our wireless infrastructure and everything we do from a telecommunications and SD-WAN perspective is done to empower our customers’ businesses, supporting our local communities and economies,” says Phillip Deneef, Chief Strategy Officer at GeoLinks.

Through its wireless network, GeoLinks enables customers to leverage advanced tools like SD-WAN, while providing the critical redundancy that so many businesses need and continue to lack. GeoLinks’ unique formula was to use Ethernet over fixed wireless. Moreover, with everyone selling some flavor of SD-WAN, what sets GeoLinks apart is its inbound failover service. The company hosts a class C block in the cloud, through which in the event of a failover, presents a single IP out to the internet, completing all of the behind-the-scenes processes with seamless transition.

In terms of customer engagement, GeoLinks’ differentiating approach is to holistically understand the goals of the stakeholders, IT staff, operations, and the financial personnel within an organization, in an effort to create a tailored solution that fits each business’ unique needs. This approach was illustrated when the company exceeded the expectations of a multilocation retailer that needed comprehensive support, from bandwidth and SDWAN to a new phone system for their eight locations throughout Southern California.

Instead of the client having to deal with two or more providers spread across several locations, GeoLinks engineered a turnkey solution, bringing everything under one contract, owning the entire process from project management and installation, to tech support and billing. Taking less than 30 days to deliver the custom solution, GeoLink’s new client was ecstatic with the final result, which connected all eight sites to a high-speed, truly redundant network.

Preceded by a legacy of growth and innovation over the last nine years, GeoLinks is rapidly impacting the telecom industry. Even while growing exponentially every year, GeoLinks stays true to its mantra of taking personalized and memorable care of each of their customers’ needs. The company is also making good on its quest to close the digital divide, becoming the largest grant award winner in the state of California to connect K-12 schools throughout the state. GeoLinks was also recently awarded $88 million by the federal government, as part of the Federal Communications Commissions’ Connect America Fund Phase II, and is in the process of expanding its high-speed broadband network to support residents and businesses in rural California and parts of Nevada.

A new service offering that the company has in the works is ClearFiber+, a network evolution that will offer multi-gigabit connectivity delivered in a week to all areas of California. As you can see, GeoLinks is showing no signs of slowing down. “We are now looking into a handful of acquisitions throughout the U.S. in all different aspects of telecommunications, with plans to leverage our industry reputation and relationships to elevate the GeoLinks platform to the next level,” concludes Deneef.
