In the wake of globalization and augmented trade operations, there has been a significant upsurge in the demand for competent Software Defined Networking (SDN) solutions. Consequently, organizations are relentlessly in pursuit of upgrading their network infrastructure with enhancements such as Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) and the cloud. However, some vendors still continue to use optical networks in closed oligopolistic environments, hindering the deployment of fiber distributed networking and the next phase of networking solutions. Besides, the ‘edge’ networking arena is presently focused on hardware with a constant rise in the rate of Capital Expenditures (CAPEX) and Operating Expenses (OPEX). Rising to the occasion, iPhotonix, a provider of telecommunication and networking solutions, helps Communications Service Providers (CSPs) migrate to ultra fast optical access networks. “We aim to bring great benefits and plentiful CAPEX and OPEX savings for both CSPs and end-users through our competent and innovative optical access networking solutions,” says Amir Elbaz, Chief Executive Officer, iPhotonix.

Since its inception, the Richardson, Texas based company has been on a mission to help organizations achieve enhanced networking prowess. To facilitate swift networking operations, iPhotonix has developed its innovative iVolve brand—the world’s first Multi-System Operable Optical Access Platform. This platform uses a broad array of Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) and Active Ethernet access units—Optical Network Terminal (ONTs), Multiple Dwelling Unit (MDUs), and Residential Gateways (RGs)—for diverse communication service requirements. “Our platform delivers the richest feature set of integrated voice, video, high-speed data, and gateway solutions in the industry,” says Elbaz.

In addition, the company’s iPhotonix Virtual Network (iVN) platform offers enhanced optical access networks, enabling CSPs to create network managed services more efficiently than traditional methods. iVN’s Management and Orchestration platform (MANO) for NFV application deliverance, virtualizes all hardware-focused applications—routing, firewall, voice service, and traffic monitoring—on public or private clouds. This helps organizations deliver applications at reduced costs. “iPhotonix enhances optical access offering with its powerful and agile iVN platform, enabling communication service providers to create network managed services,” says Elbaz.

Moreover, iPhotonix’s GPON uses passive splitters in the fiber distribution network, enabling a single feeding fiber from the provider’s central office to serve multiple homes and small businesses. GPON facilitates a large portion of high-speed bandwidth across long distances in a cost-effective way. Additionally, GPON follows a point-to-multi-point infrastructural framework, compared to Active Ethernet’s point-to-point framework. In this network architecture the bandwidth is divided between several subscribers, making it a more cost-effective way to deploy gigabit services to the home or business.

iPhotonix, with its vision to strengthen the SDN landscape rationalizes all the aspects of network managed services to help organizations enhance their communications systems. One of the company’s unique ideologies is its ‘ability to quickly adapt’ to changing market conditions and aim for maximum innovation to outmaneuver competition. iPhotonix collaborates with standard bodies—Full Service Access Network (FSAN) and Broadband Forum—and develops pioneering networking solutions. After extensive system test, but prior to launching any product to the market, iPhotonix always uses a beta version of the product for its own networking needs to ensure market readiness.

iPhotonix is focused on delivering their secure, intuitive, agile, and highly scalable edge virtualization platform iVN to enable high-speed networking ability to its clients. Currently, iPhotonix is working with key industry players on advancements in the optical access virtualization and the proliferation of NFV deployments. Moving ahead, iPhotonix, along with its partners Foxconn and Hisense, plans to develop next generation optical access devices and continue transforming the SDN landscape.
